Cyber Crime Coverage

Cybercrime is an ever-evolving threat.

The Cyber Crime Coverage Feature is a new sub-feature to the Million Dollar Protection Plan which will help you recover financially from cyberattacks such as ransomware and social engineering fraud (social engineering fraud definition in Glossary) and the damage those attacks cause.

  • Provides coverage of up to $100K per membership year 
  • Allows for 2 cyberattack claims per year that result in cyber extortion, or stolen fund losses resulting from social engineering fraud 
  • Member is responsible for $1,000 deductible per each cyberattack 
  • Member will not be entitled to any reimbursement if the total amount of the cyber losses resulting from any one covered cyberattack is less than the $1,000.00 deductible.  
  • There is no obligation to pay any ransom amounts until the member has paid the $1,000 deductible.

Key Benefits

  1. Cyber Extortion Reimbursement+++: Helps members recover from a cyber extortion attack that holds their computing and mobile devices* and its contents ransom.
    • Coverage for authorized ransom amounts. 
    • Members who are victims of cyber extortion will have a dedicated U.S.-Based Identity Restoration Specialist assigned to their case
    • Should additional support be required, Norton will retain experts to help you restore your device and electronic data
    • Cyber Extortion must be reported within 14 days of discovery of the cyberattack
Does not include:
Reimbursement for experts or third-party professionals retained directly by the member
  1. Social Engineering Fraud: This covers stolen fund losses from a cyberattack as a result of social engineering fraud when a cybercriminal psychologically manipulates a member to perform actions or divulge personal information to illegally perform any of the following:
    • Access financial accounts, transfer funds, open new accounts, secure a loan or enter into contracts in the member’s name
    • Secure or obtain a tax refund through the filing of a fraudulent tax return 
    • Commit a crime
    • Apply for or obtain a governmental benefit
Limitations:
  • Social Engineering Fraud must be reported within 30 days after discovery of the fraud event
  • Stolen Funds Loss arising from Social Engineering Fraud must be reported within 90 days after discovery of loss
  • Stolen Funds Losses does not include: Theft of any Digital Currency or Theft of any monies from a Digital Currency Account, any non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or other assets which only exist digitally and are verified using blockchain technology.
  1. Coverage for Lawyers & Experts: Norton sources and retains these experts on behalf of its members ensuring they get the care they deserve
    • Covers expenses paid to investigators and other third-party experts that are reasonably necessary, to restore the member’s good name and identity, or to recover associated cyber losses.
    • Includes Attorneys, Cyber Security Consultants, Reputation Management Specialists, and Digital Forensic Analysts
Limitations:
This is not a reimbursement. Norton will provide these services up to the limit of the Cyber Crime Coverage.+++
  1. Coverage for Data & System Recovery: Provides coverage for electronic data recovery and computer system restoration costs associated with a cyber extortion and cybercrime/malware event.  
    • Norton will retain professionals on behalf of the member including digital forensic analysts, cybersecurity consultants and even reputation management specialists as needed up to the limits of your plan.
Limitations:
  • Coverage does not include replacement of devices.
  • Electronic data recovery will only be provided if the member had their electronic data backed up to an external hard drive or external hard drive infrastructure.
  1. Cyber Restoration Support: Live expert help when it’s most needed. 
    • Support is provided by a U.S. Based Identity Restoration Specialist. When a member submits a claim, a Restoration Specialist is assigned to their case. This Specialist is dedicated to work with that member to help them resolve their case from start to finish.
    • Our Restoration Specialists will work to restore the member’s device and funds that were transferred without their authorization.

+++ Reimbursement and Expense Compensation, each with limits of up to $1 million for LifeLock with Norton Benefit Essential, LifeLock with Norton Benefit Premier, LifeLock with Norton Benefit Premier Plus, and up to $25,000 for LifeLock Benefit Junior, including up to $1 million in coverage for lawyers and experts, if needed for all plans.  In addition, if Cyber Crime Coverage is provided with your plan, up to $100,000 for data restoration, lawyers and experts, if needed, reimbursement of stolen funds and out of pocket expenses.  All benefits under the Master Policy are issued and covered by United Specialty Insurance Company (State National Insurance Company, Inc. for NY State members). *Device means a desktop, laptop, tablet computer, hard wired or Wi-Fi connected Internet router, modem, cellular phone or smart phone. Such device must be owned or leased by an Insured and operated under an Insured’s control

**Costs for replacement of or reimbursement for a new Computing Device is not covered.
